An INVITATION TO YOU from the F.O.H.G. (Fernley Observatory Heritage Group) TO TAKE A FEW STEPS INTO YOUR UNIVERSE.

Welcome to Southport's own unique, astronomical facility, the Fernley Observatory (also known as the BAXENDELL/FERNLEY) Observatory. This Grade II Listed Building is situated on high ground, at the heart of one of our leafy, Victorian Parks, HESKETH PARK, between the A565 and the B5280. Experience the atmosphere of the Fernley, built on this spot in 1902 by the late Joseph Baxendell JNR in memory of his father by the same name. Inspect the huge, high precision Victorian 6 Inch Refractor Telescope, built in 1869 by one of this countries greatest masters of teslecope design and construction, Thomas Cooke & Sons.

Visit our current downstairs Space Exhibitions. The Summer of 2016 is Cosmonauts, Gagarin and the First Space Pioneers.

Keep in touch with the progress to restore our Observatory to full working order, THROUGH THIS, OUR NEW WEBSITE.

We look forward to hearing from you.
